From humble beginnings. It was the year 1999 when a
group of friends got together with a novel idea—to offer good-tasting,
affordable sushi with take-out service. Thus, Kitaro was born as a sushi-to-go
outlet beside the entrance gate of White Plains subdivision in Quezon City. It
was a very unpretentious setting with a counter and three tables, but the good
food and efficient service presage the rise of an inevitable chain. |

With a sushi line that boasted of variety and freshness, Kitaro
created the Sushi Party Tray, which became the popular choice for
family gatherings, barkada outings, business meetings, and even
gifts. Kitaro gained a slow and steady following, and the menu soon
evolved to include the Japanese favorites they serve today, such as
tempura and rice toppings.

July 2001 saw the first mall-based Kitaro in SM Manila, creating a
great opportunity to bring delicious Japanese food to more people. In the
succeeding years, branches sprouted up in various locations around Metro Manila,
as well as several provincial outlets to the North and South of Luzon. What
started out as a small take-out sushi place in White Plains nine years ago has
now grown into a thriving restaurant chain of over 30 branches, carrying
Kitaro’s banner of excellent food and service. |
